It’s Crypto Time.

Apr 30, 2021
The age of cryptocurrency is finally upon us. We know you’ve heard this before, and we know it wasn’t true then — but it is now. This isn’t just a bull run. This is a new era.
We’re not saying that because prices are at all-time highs, or because Coinbase has IPOed. The age of cryptocurrency is not about speculation. Yes, the crypto markets are still basically a huge casino, but that casino is part of an enormously powerful flywheel: speculation leads to interest, which leads to experimentation, which leads to innovation.
It isn’t any of DeFi, NFTs, or social tokens which matter in particular. (Although we’re pretty excited about social tokens; more on that in a bit.) It’s something more general, and more fundamental. It’s that the last decade of experimentation is finally beginning to bear new fruit. Let us stress: beginning. We are still in crypto’s very early days.
Meanwhile, the criticisms currently aimed at cryptocurrencies are real, and valid … but diminishing:
- Yes, they consume enormous amounts of electricity; but Ethereum is making real progress towards “ETH 2.0,” which will not.
- Yes, NFTs are arbitrary, and most don’t actually have any meaningful on-chain connection to the art they represent; but they’ve also revealed a vast unmet hunger for digital ownership.
- Yes, the user experience remains painfully clunky and difficult; but nobody said decentralizing the Internet, and moving power away from centralized tech stacks into the hands of strangers communicating peer-to-peer, would be easy.
We believe in this decentralized revolution. We believe in creating viable alternatives to services relied on by billions but controlled by a few. Less exhortatively, but more specifically, we also believe that cryptocurrencies will usher in new models for community coherence and interaction, with the rise of social tokens. We are still very very early in that wave, which at present is little more than ripples … but it’s coming, and we intend to stay ahead of it.
This is far from new territory for us. We’ve written cryptocurrency white papers, and opinion pieces, and built a slew of cryptocurrency projects, since way back in 2014. But to concretely signify our belief that the long-awaited crypto change wave is finally upon us, we are pleased to announce that, as of May 1st, HappyFunCorp will accept payment for all projects and services in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dai, or USDC.
Viva la cryptolution,
